Transmission line is an essential part of modern power system, it undertakes the power transmission, the reliability of the transmission line determines the operation of the whole power grid. Once there has a fault on the transmission, it can quickly and accurately realize the fault location and eliminate the fault is the priority among priorities. This paper analyzes the transmission line fault location, the existed transmission line fault location method and their existing advantages and disadvantages. Then it chooses the single ended traveling wave method to achieve the fault location under the comprehensive analysis. This paper analyzes how to further improve the positioning accuracy of transmission line fault location.First of all, this research studies the characteristics of transient traveling wave in transmission line. To solve the problem of the electromagnetic coupling existence between phases of transmission lines, it chooses the phase mode transformation to eliminate the error caused by the coupling in the fault location. The purpose of this paper is not only to eliminate the coupling in the fault location but also to achieve a single modulus to phase selection when there is a fault in transmission line; on the other hand, it uses the the theory of wavelet transform to analysis the fault signal, then to get the information of fault correlation distance. The advantage of the wavelet transform in the frequency domain and time domain is that it has a lot of discovery space on the singularity single, such as the fault traveling wave on the transmission line. Secondly this paper chooses the simulink module of the matlab software to build the power grid of 110 kV, by changing the parameter of the model simulation under different fault types, different distance and the different resistance when connecting the ground. Then get the desired data to verify the reliability improved modeling method of phase selection method and fault location transform. Finally it uses the GUI of matlab to achieve the interface between the user and the simulation model The interaction, the human-computer interaction, help the user to master the condition of the fault.
