The traditional method of flow regulating fan is artificially adjusting wind resistance. The method is not only a waste of valuable energy, but also the regulation accuracy is low. It can’t satisfy the needing of the modern industrial production and the service requirements under the current situation. As induction motor drive is used in the fan field mostly, the disadvantages of the fan’s speed-regulation is not-smooth. It has no speed regulation and the saving energy is bad, and the starting current of induction motor has great impact to the electric network, lead to the low power factor, increase the burden of reactive power on power grid. The number of fan is very large used on transformers, the Dongguan Bureau has 578 main transformers, each of the main transformer has 15 typhoons at least, the 96%wind machines are used by induction motor. But in actual operation, because of its low efficiency, Dong guan Bureau has a cooperation with the Electric Power Research to design a high efficiency permanent magnet motor for fan that used in large capacity transformer substation. This paper includes the determination of main dimensions, rotor structure choice, the pole-arc coefficient selection, eccentricity size determination. The finite element analysis of the motor based on the software platform ANSYS/Maxwell. It includes analysis of air gap magnetic field, analysis of permanent magnet shape, analysis of motor steady performance motor transient performance. The aim of this study is to design a rated voltage 180V, rated power 350W and rated speed 1200r/min permanent magnet Brushless DC motor for fans. According to the characteristics of this type of motor, selecting the basic parameters of the motor design, the reasonable slot pole match, pole arc coefficient, optimum bread shape permanent magnet shape to improve the efficiency and reducing the cogging torque of the motor. For the problem of the motor’s cogging torque, the optimal choice of rational fractional slot and pole-arc coefficient, to reduce the cogging torque.Test results of the prototype are given in this paper. The experimental results show that the design scheme is reasonable, and the method and measures are effective, and the analysis is correct. This paper has practical value for the design and analysis of the Brushless DC motor for the wind turbine.
