| The Car-following model is a microscopic dynamics model to describe the behavior of the following vehicle when the leading vehicle in different states, getting the microscopic behavior and the macroscopic phenomena linked by analyzing the behavior of each vehicle to understand the characteristics of single-lane traffic. Car following model can change the driving strategy, reduce accidents and losses by analyzing the conditions and factors of collision from the micro level and also can calculate the road capacity by learning the operational characteristics of each vehicle. Nowadays car following model is widely used in the world to simulate and analysis the behavior of traffic flow.This paper introduced classical car-following model and optimal velocity model, then designed and produced a smart car, its motion properties were studied. Based on that, we calibrated the factors of smart car following model and implement a following model simulation platform, which can use smart car to simulate real road conditions and shows the experimental data through the upper computer. The innovative points lies in:(1) The platform provides a new practical simulation method differ from computer simulation. The experimental data can be read and displayed by LabVIEW, which can be used to study and improve car following model; (2) The car following behavior can be displayed under the change of different states, and provides a more intuitive experimental platform for the study of the car following model. |
