Steel tube-reinforced concrete column pier is a new type member in civil engineering structures, less research has been put on to investigate the vulnerability of this type member. In order to study the vulnerability of this type structure, a numerical simulation method was introduced in this paper. Through the results, the influence of axial compression ratio, longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume stirrup ratio and section steel content ratio has been discussed. Moreover, the results were compared to that of normal reinforced concrete piers. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)With the increase of axial compression ratio, the probability of slight damage state of steel tube-reinforced concrete is reduced while that increased in moderate damage, severe damage and collapse state.(2) With the increase of longitudinal reinforcement ratio, the probability of each damage state for this new type pier decreases by an extremely small value.(3) With the increase of volume stirrup ratio, the severe damage probability decreases significantly while the probability of the other three damage states decreases with a little level.(4) The sectional steel content ratio (steel tube wall thickness) has slight impact on the damage probability of this new type pier.(5) Compared with reinforced concrete pier, the damage probability of steel tube-reinforced concrete column pier decreases intensely especial for severe and collapse damage states. This phenomenon indicates that steel tube-reinforced concrete column pier has a better seismic resistance performance.
