Since 21 st century, the position and role of ocean in social-economic development is increasingly prominent, ocean economy gradually become an important part of our national economy. However, coastal areas frequently affected by sea ice disasters. Sea ice can block waterways, destroy ships, push over offshore oil platforms, destroy port facilities, and paralyze sea transportation, causing great damage and loss to offshore facilities in severe cases. To ensure safety of operation on ice area, forecast and monitor of sea ice is necessary, and precise measurement of sea ice thickness is the vital part of sea ice monitor.On the basis of literature at home and abroad, this paper expounds the development and status of measuring method on sea ice thickness in domestic and overseas, simply introduces the measuring principle of different measuring methods and compares their advantages and disadvantages. Combined with the characteristics of thin ice in coastal regions of our country, determined the system solution of ice thickness detection radar and designed the ice thickness detection radar with a working frequency band of 8 ~ 12 GHz linear frequency modulation continuous wave(LFMCW). It has the advantages of low cost, low power consumption and miniaturization. Theoretical resolution reaches 3.75 cm can accurately measure the thickness of thin ice.This paper has a theoretic discussion and feasibility verification test of the ice detect principle of LFMCW radar, provides basic components of LFMCW ice detect Radar system, and analyzes its theoretical detection resolution; According to the requires of theory and practice, decide the requirements of indicators of ice detect radar system then choose appropriate modulation period and modulation bandwidth based on requirements of indicators; Using high 1dB compression point, low noise power amplifier chip and low noise amplifier chip make the ice detect radar system has a high transmission power and large receive dynamic range; Based on related theories of microstrip line, choose and design the thickness of PCB board, dielectric constant and RF signal line width, also has Cadence and ADS cascaded simulation analysis about the key circuits of the RF front-end, shorten design time, reduce design cost and increase the feasibility of hardware circuit; This system adopts modularized idea, therefore, each functional circuit of the ice detect radar system RF front-end is realized by separate module which will facilitate the test and improvement of late-stage experiments; Complete production, installation and debugging of hardware for each main module of ice thickness detect radar RF front-end, do a comparative analysis of the test result and simulation result, put forward the reason of deviation and ways to improve.
