There are still many shortcomings in traditional hydraulic transmission medium, mineral petroleum based hydraulic oil need to consume a large amount of oil resources and prone to leakage, flammable, causing environmental pollution and personal safety. High water hydraulic transmission medium has the characteristics of energy saving, low cost, and fire-retardant features. However, due to pressure transmission medium is water or water-based hydraulic fluids, is more serious corrosion to hydraulic components, likely to cause increased abrasion in hydraulic transmission of friction pairs, thereby causing reduced the system volume efficiency or sealing property. More and more people’s attention to the environmental and energy issues, the new water-based hydraulic transmission medium widespread attention, in practical applications to replace the traditional hydraulic transmission working medium.This paper introduces the development of the hydraulic transmission working medium and application status, analyze the performance deficiencies of the prior hydraulic transmission work medium, summarizes the study status of Nano water-based medium, describes the theory of friction and lubrication and the mechanism of common lubricant additives, proposed lubrication mechanism of nanoparticles lubricant additive. Based on select the Nano water-based hydraulic medium constituent, choose nano boron carbide (B4C) as nano materials, using two-step method to prepare nano B4C water-based fluid, the experiment of dispersion stability and rheological properties by single variable experiment study various additives and water-base fluid type. By abrasion test to analyze the impact of nanoparticles, a dispersant, a water-based liquid, load and other factors on the friction-reducing abrasion nano B4C water-based hydraulic work medium. The experiments show that the deionized water as a dispersion medium, under load conditions remain unchanged, the nanoparticles of 80nm diameter and mass fraction of 0.8%, CMC300-800 as a dispersant and the mass fraction of nanometers 0.3% B4C water based medium abrasion resistance performance to achieve the best. According to the physical and chemical properties of nano B4C particles, study nano B4C particle dispersion and agglomeration mechanism in water based fluid, established the nano B4C dispersion model in water based fluid. Nano B4C adsorbent fills the recess of contact surface during contact with the friction, play a role of micro-bearing in the bulge place. The experimental results show, when the test load reaches 200N in the friction pairs, rolling friction of nano B4C adsorption object become to sliding friction of nano B4C reunite objects physical adsorption film.
