The tank is a typical type of thin wall structure, which is widely used in industrial and agricultural production for the storage of liquid and solid such as petroleum, liquefied natural gas, grain and cement. The vertical steel tank is one of the most commonly used tank types. In addition to the general statical load, the vertical steel tanks can also suffer the accidental impact load from the falling rock, the car accident, even the massy and high-speed missile, the fragment and shock wave from the exploding tank. The research of vertical steel tanks under explosion and impact load have practical engineering value because of their fierce destruction. This dissertation set up the experiment for the scale model of vertical steel tanks under impact load on SHPB device. The result obtained from our experiment and from experiment in the published Iliterature both agreed with their corresponding numerical simulation, which illustrate that the numerical model used in this paper is reliable. This dissertation build the finite element model of large vertical steel tank and discuss the mechanical properties of the tank under rigid strike. We attempt to acquire the mechanism of the whole process of strike, the final transformation model of the tank and the distribution of plastic strain. Some correlation was analysed of the maximum displacement of the tank wall with the impulse of the rigid, R/t and H/R. We also try to know the regularity of the different transformation model based on the striking rigid with different mass and velocity. The vertical steel tank can also suffer the strike by fragment from the adjacent exploding tank. The fragments was random but regular, from which we can obtain the flight path curve and the velocity time curve of the fragment through the equilibrium equations. We ultimately get the dynamic response of the tank after acquiring the speed and angle of the fragments when striking from the curves. And we also discussed the effect of the strike angle (include vertical angle.horizontal angle and the angle around the self-axis) and the strike position (include top and middle parts)In practical project, the most possible load is explosion load, which is strong and quick but do a great harm to the tank. We simulate the process of the tank under blast wave from the explosion of adjacent tanks through the metheds of simplified shock wave and TNT equivalence. The TNT equivalence method contains the discussion of the dynamic response of the tank under different conditions (include single-point exploding, two-point exploding simultaneously and two-point exploding in succession). We also tried some methods such as liquid filling and seting up some explosion-proof strip outside the tank to find the effective measures for reducing explosion hazard.
