With the depletion of fossil fuels, and the increasing importance of reducing greenhouse gas emission, the implementing of distributed generation that using renewable energy becomes a good choice to mitigate these problem. The connection of distributed generation, alleviates the problem of energy and environment, at the same time, brings new challenges to the distribution network voltage control. Passive voltage control based on unidirectional flow is no longer suitable for the reason of bi-directional power, and gradually shifts to active voltage control. Active distribution network voltage control strategy mainly includes the distributed voltage control and coordinated voltage control. Compared with the decentralized local node voltage control, coordination voltage control makes decisions from a global perspective. Finally, comparing the effectiveness of distributed voltage control and coordinated voltage and the potential capacity of DG based on optimal power flow program. We can easily get the conclusion that coordinated voltage control is more suitable for urban distribution network which contains more communication facilities and voltage regulating equipment, and distributed voltage control is often used to rural distribution network that contains less voltage regulating equipment and communication facilities.
