The current demand of electrical power has shown a booming trend due to development of social economy, meanwhile, requirements for power supply reliability are also improved. With the expending scale of urban distribution network, the electrical interconnection has become increasingly sophisticated. As an important self-recoverable equipment, spare power automatic switching apparatus has been significantly studied by worldwide researchers. It has experienced transformations from electromagnetic, microcomputer based type to digital type, and gradually evolves into a microminiaturized, remote, and intelligent automatic device. Despite those evolvements, the current spare power automatic switching apparatus still has imperfections such as simple logic functions, constrained control ranges and so on. So it is important to develop a wide-area spare power automatic switching apparatus to fit the sophisticated urban distribution network structure.Based on wide-area data collection analysis technology, the thesis will proceed an expansible design on spare power automatic switching apparatus to achieve monitor and control of complex urban distribution network. First of all, aiming at achieving auto-switching of wide-area spare power source to narrow blackout range and reduce outage time of non-faulty electrical equipment, a study of failures and overloads in basic distribution network structure is proceed. Based on optimized systematic verb mode, the basic functions of wide-area spare power automatic switching apparatus are summarized, which includes current monitor, failure isolation, overload shedding, and spare power source switching.After that, new spare power automatic switching apparatus and terminal hardware structure are designed. With network connections, a system is established to achieve recording, processing, monitoring, communicating, and operating distribution network information. Moreover, by using electrical node topology to for analyzing urban distribution network, encoding, monitoring, and self-detect work process of wide-area spare power automatic switching apparatus and its operating architecture are designed. What’s more, designs of its working processes, which includes failure analysis, overload analysis, and spare power switching are carried out, with further discuss of spare power switching plan optimization and cooperation among wide-area spare power automatic switching apparatuses.Ultimately, the superiority and effectiveness of this system are demonstrated by exampling three cases on real failure incidences in some district of Taiyuan.
