Comparing to other machine, permanent magnet synchronous machine has the advantages of small volume, light weight, high efficiency and so on. Permanent magnet synchronous traction machine will come to be the developing direction of the elevator traction machine. In addition to the above-mentioned advantages, axial flux permanent magnet synchronous traction machine also has the advantages of being thinner of the axial thickness and can be installed directly in well. These advantages have make permanent magnet synchronous traction machine become a significant direction of the developing of traction machine. According to features of axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor, the axial flux permanent magnet synchronous traction machine has been studied in this paper. Moreover, this paper also studies the problem of rotor position detection in the permanent magnet synchronous traction machine. The first part summarizes the research status of AFPM. Mainly includes the AFPM topologies; AFPM design method, which is to determine the main dimensions; the electromagnetic properties of the AFPM analysis, including analysis based on the solution of the differential equation, using finite element software to solve the 2D-3D modeling of AFPM, the cogging torque analysis, loss analysis and thermal analysis; in the end of this part, the AFPM motor control theory also considered. The second part contains the following contents:according to the design method of the AFPM, the main dimensions of the AFPM is determined; the efficiency of motor in the different ratio of inner and outer diameter has been calculated in Ansoft RMxprt. The project which is not only satisfied to the efficiency but also the cost has been chose to be the final design in the total designs. The third part describes the basic principle of three-dimensional finite element method for solving the electromagnetic field; the mesh form of three-dimensional finite element model; optimization of tooth width; checking the demagnetization of the permanent magnet; the rotor strength has been checked on ANSYS Workbench simulation platform and optimization has been performed on thickness of rotor. The result indicates that rotor deformation is quite small which can satisfy the require when the motor is rotating. the no-load and load simulation; the fragment method has been used to simulating the cogging torque, motor in the radial direction is divided into five sections, simulation results show that, cogging torque only 0.52% of the rated torque. The fourth part introduces the saturation effect which has been applied in rotor position detection of permanent magnet synchronous motor; a permanent magnet motor whose per pole per phase slot number greater than 1 has been an example to verify the effectiveness of the detection method. Then, an example which is failed in detection by using the method is given out. The example of electric machine per pole per phase slot number is 0.41. After comparing and analyzing the results, the reasons for failure has been speculated, and a four pole 6 slots permanent magnet motor is used to be verifying. The experimental results show that the conjecture is correct.
