Accurate transmission line fault location is significant for site patrol and rapid line fault repair. At present, the complete set of traveling wave distance measuring device and system has been applied to actual transmission lines, provided references and operating experiences for transmission line fault location. But the analysis software is complex,and there are still some certain shortcomings which makes it hard for the improvements and expansions of the software’s functions. Therefore, a set of traveling wave analysis software suitable for the simulation of laboratory transmission line based on the LabVIEW is developed in this article.The method integrated with the wavelet transform technology could improve the ranging accuracy, and would be a feasible reference for further amelioration towards wavelet-analysis softwares. Main works of the paper can be what follows:(1)The modern traveling wave distance measuring principle, Wavelet transform and algorithm are analyzed, and the performance of traveling wave analysis software in use is summarized, which offers reference&design of the software mentioned in the article.(2)An overall scheme of the software development and design is put forward, with the entrance of software’s function requirement. Software’s function development and design presented in the paper mainly focused on the data acquisition module, the traveling wave analysis and calculation module, the ranging results display module, the data storage and searching module, system submodule and front panel. The fault data is derived from the simulation system accomplished by PSCAD.(3)Key issues encountered in the task, such as the perfection of formula for calculating,waveform and conclusion display after the fault, saving and searching the results from the database, have been solved through adopting advanced techniques provided by LabVIEW. Then the program and front panel have been designed. And the various functional modules are combined to form a coherent whole, making it possible for the fault traveling wave analysis software to be complete and feasible. The operation process of the whole software was elaborated then.(4)Tested and Verified the functionality of the software.The fault traveling wave analysis software presented in the paper is based on the LabVIEW, and could handle those jobs such as collecting and analyzing the simulation data of various fault types, selecting preferable method of fault location, showing different outputs from diverse fault location methods, displaying computed data graphically, saving and readingthe results. The test results,display interface&capability of the software via checkedsimulation examples.
