With the rapid development of technology and the automotive industry, people’s requirements for comprehensive performance of automobile are also increasing. Except for pursing economy, security and stability of automobile, driving comfort increasingly attracted more and more attention. A comfortable car design not only can effectively reduce fatigue and discomfort during driving, and also improve the driving efficiency.With the rapid development of biomechanics, more and more experts and scholars bring biomechanics to the field of automotive ergonomics. From the perspective of biomechanics, this paper studies the comfort of driving and through the muscle force prediction method to analyze muscle force of the driver during driving. In this way, the driving comfort evaluation model is built based on muscle force.To explore the driver’s muscle force during driving, the existing prediction methods of muscle force are summarized. After that, using two main methods which are selected and described in detail to do experimental analysis for driving process.Through the human upper extremity musculoskeletal model to study the muscle force of upper extremity during steering process. Situ steering experiment is conducted in a real car to collect the kinematic and dynamics data. And the human upper extremity musculoskeletal model is built and used to simulate the driver’s steering process. With the calculation of upper extremity muscle force to analyze the variations of muscle force during steering process.Through the surface electromyography to study the muscle force during pedal manipulation process. Using analog pedal device to do pedal manipulation experiments to collect the surface electromyography data during pedal manipulation. And time domain and frequency domain are analyzed to extract characteristic index. According to MPF and RMS to calculate muscle force and analyze the variations of muscle force of main muscles during pedal manipulation.The comfort index is constructed based on muscle force data and the driving comfort evaluation model is established. On this basis, the comfort of steering process and pedal manipulation process are evaluated respectively. Results shown that this model can provide theoretical basis for humanization design in human-vehicle system.
