Permanent magnet synchronous motor for tourism boat propulsion mainly adopts NdFeB permanent magnetic material that lead to high material cost and low speed direct propulsion motor has many pole numbers. Permanent magnet assisted reluctance synchronous motor structure is used for propulsion is too complex and has low power factor, therefore the new structure of hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor is proposed. Rotor structure of hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor has a few layers and uses both NdFeB and ferrite permanent magnetic materials, the no-load air gap magnetic density of the hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor is between the NdFeB permanent magnet synchronous motor and the ferrite permanent magnet synchronous motor, and the torque can reach the same torque as the both and also use full of reluctance torque.This paper firstly introduces the development trend of marine propulsion motor and research status of permanent magnet synchronous motor for ship propulsion. The hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor modles with different pole slots and different rotor structure are simulated and analyzed, and the best pole slots and rotor structure is obtained. Then the paper makes the electromagnetic comparison of hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor, permanent magnet synchronous motor and ferrite permanent magnet synchronous motor, mainly analyzes the torque angle characteristics, evaluates the cost performance of three kinds of motor to conclude that the hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motors have a certain price advantage, the optimization design of rotor structure of hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor is done at the same time for reducing the torque ripple. Secondly, hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor stress safety is asseted based on the ANSYS Workbench to verify the safety of the structure, then the temperature field of hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor is simulated to obtain temperature distribution of the motor under the rated condition. Demagnetization of the NdFeB and ferrite permanent magnet of hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor under the temperature rise and short circuit conditions are discussed. Finally, the 1.5kW ferrite permanent magnet synchronous motor and hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor have been built, the prototype trial manufacture process and field experiment are introduced, then the experimental results has been compared with the simulation results to verify the reasonableness of the motor design indicating that the hybrid permanent magnet synchronous motor has certain research value.
