The special shaped cable-stayed bridge with double arch towers has special structure,and its space and force performance are different from that of conventional cable-stayed bridge, in addition applying the combination of steel arch tower and concrete pier on the cable-stayed bridge increased its complexity. In this paper, based on the Xi’an petaling special shaped cable-stayed bridge with double arch towers, the design parameters and bearing capacity of the steel tower and concrete pier in this bridge were studied.First of all,the development of tower section,application status and research back ground were discussed,also the connection form and layout example were described,based on which the existing problems of combined segment were raised,and the most important shear key on the combined segment was discussed as well. The application of the shear key made the steel structure and concrete structure which had different elastic modulus from each other form a unified whole,preventing the horizontal slip and separation between the two interfaces.Secondly the finite element software was used to calculate the most unfavorable force of the overall bridge structure,based on which the local force of the combined segment was analyzed.Five design parameters that the strength grade of concrete,the concrete height in the tower and the diameter, thickness,spacing of perforated plate were changed,and the local force in different parameters was analyzed,so as to optimize the structure design.Finally, with reference to relevant model tests, nonlinear analysis of model material on PBL and shear studs was done to get the ultimate bearing capacity. Synthesizing model tests and the results of the finite element analysis,capacity calculation formula of the two kinds of components was corrected,and unified bearing capacity calculation formula with clear physical meaning was launched.
