In recent years, the advatages of 4-wheel independent-drive electric vehicles in structure and control method with hub motors has made it become one of the hottest issues in autombile field, espically utilizing modern control technology to improve the safety drivability of electric vehicles. This paper has been propsoed multi-model predictve control of 4WD eletrice vehicle, which is based on the theories of multi-model active fault tolerant control and model predictive control, so 4-wheel-drive electric vehicle can quickly achieve the minimum vehicle safety requirements in various working circumstances. This strategy has made the vehicle yaw rate as control target, and calculated the additional torque by model predictive controllers according to different vehicle working stations. The torque would be imposed to vehicle to control the vehicle weaving. The 7 DOF vehicle dynamics model in normal working state has been made in this paper, which includes body model, tire model, steering system and hub motor model. According to this model, the vehicle models, which the vehicle worked in turing state with high speed or with damage institution state, have been established. So the structure and algorithm of multi-model predictive control of 4WD electric vehicle base on different swithing rules can been built in Simulink, which would assist electric vehicle quickly in handling some special conditions. The control performance has been examined by utilizing the joint simulation program of CARSIM and Simulink. The resluts shows the different control effects of the two swithing strategy.
