As a new type damping device of car, automobile magnetorheological semi-active suspension has extensive application value. At present, the researches of magnetorheological semi-active suspension and its control strategy were mostly based on simulation model, lack of experiment. Based on hardware in the loop, this article had an experiment on a quarter of magnetorheological semi-active suspension system, based on the problems in the experiment put forward a new type structure of magnetorheological damper, and developed a experiment rig of vehicle suspension that closer to the actual condition. The specific research content as follows:(1)The simulation research of automobile magnetorheological semi-active suspension. Based on on-off control strategy and improve on-off control strategy,built 1/4 automobile magnetorheological semi-active suspension model, did simulations on different road surface(sine and random), established the parameters to evaluated the suspension’s performance, then evaluated the control effect.(2)The hardware in the loop experiment of the 1/4 vehicle semi-active suspension.To introduced the content, including Advantage software system, set signal acquisition channel, the structure of 1/4 suspension experiment platform, the structure and principles of the electric vibration table, the parameters of each sensor,etc. Accounted for the principle and steps of hardware in the loop experiment,analysed the experimental results.(3)The development and experiment of the new type magnetorheological damper.In hardware in the loop experiment, we found that the magnetorheological damping have slow cooling,coil disassembling difficulties and other issues, therefore,developed a new type magnetorheological damper with coil external, and did damping characteristics experimental research.(4)The development of the suspension test rig. In the hardware in the loop experiments, the output of the shaking table make the 1/4 vehicle semi-active suspension system vibration in the vertical. However, the capability and vibrationdirection is limited, the table is hardy equal to real road, so designed a vehicle suspension performance test rig that can in a real circular motion.This article had the hardware in loop experiment of 1/4 vehicle magnetorheological semi-active suspension, provided a basis for the theory simulation, widend the way of simulation. As an important part of the semi-active suspension, magnetorheological damper is the key to guarantee performance. This paper developed a new type of magnetorheological damper, provided a new thinking for the development of the damper.
