Due to the storage capacity of power battery pack, the driving range of the electric vehicles(EV) is small and thus the EV can only be used in a limited area so far. To solve this problem, building enough charging utilities has become the key. In this paper, a VIENNA type rectifier is discussed and designed in detail from the perspective of the engineering practice.According to the topology of the VIENNA type rectifier, a mathematic model is established in the abc three-phase stationary coordinate system and then deduced to the dq twophase synchronous rotating coordinate system. A controller using PI is designed in current and voltage control loops.The base vector of the Space Vector Modulation is derived and after a brief introduce in the realization of SVM, a simplified way is offered by transforming the three-level SVM to two-level SVM with a very little computation consumption and a comprehensive realization is given to the latter one.The vibration of the middle point of the output voltage is analyzed in detail. Since the destination vector is composed by the base vectors in SVM, the results of how base vectors influence middle point voltage vibration are given in detail. And a time distribution factor for the short vectors is proposed to minimize the vibration range.After all the analysis, a simulation using MATLAB is designed to verify the proposed methods and a 6 k W VIENNA type rectifier experimental platform is design in practice. In this paper, the hardware realization and software algorithm is well explained. A series of solutions aiming to minimize the price of bill of materials and squeezing the maximize performance are put forward and analyzed in considerable detail, such as the sampling circuits, MOSFET driving circuits, on-board power supply etc. The progress how the DSP call interrupt service routine and how to trigger ADC and update the PWM compare values is analyzed.The results of simulation and experimental turn out that, the new mentioned way of SVM realization and minimizing the middle point voltage vibration works well. The VIENNA type rectifier can earn a sinusoidal current with the unit power factor. The middle point voltage vibrates in a relatively small range.
