Well row is an effective engineering measure for drainage decompression, which can be applied to many fields. Intensive drain screen in hydraulic engineering, well point dewatering in foundation pit engineering, and packed drains in soft foundation treatment all can be treated as the example of well row. This paper mainly focuses on virtual bypass method, which present a study on well row calculation under different flow states with the help of common software.Virtual bypass method is a way to simulate the additional seepage path around relief well by adding a bypass section to the side of seepage flow profile in well row, which can help correcting the well water level. In this method, bypass unit does not affect the divisions and calculations of the other units. And the bypass can be added the seepage matrix directly without iteration, which is quite flexible and convenient for adding and modifying. Through the analysis of steady and unsteady flow based on the drawdown and flow of well row, this paper finds out the relationship between the well node water head and the interwell average water level, which gives a foundation for finite element algorithm in virtual bypass method. The calculating formula of fixed drawdown well row flow is based on the principle of step well flow, which provided a comparison basis for the results of finite element calculation in later chapters.The modeling and calculation of steady and unsteady well row flow can be achieved by using ABAQUS software and virtual bypass method. And the comparison of analytical solution can help verifying the accuracy of the finite element calculation results. This paper did a lot of verification and applicability analysis on well spacing, well radius, cell size and time step by using control variable method. And the result shows that this method has high accuracy in well row calculation under different flow state and working condition, which can meet the needs in engineering.For typical engineering example, using well row virtual bypass method for analyzing and comparing with the empirical formula in engineering can fully meet the requirements of engineering accuracy. This method can help obtaining the seepage water head distribution and the influence scope, and then getting some engineering indicators such the degree of consolidation, which is a reference guide for the calculation in engineering.
