In the early years, the widespread use of the bridge expansion joints has resulted in the high expense on bridge maintenance. The research of jointless and less joints has been the important part of bridge sustainable development. Simply supported girder bridge with continuous slab-deck not only keep the advantages of simply supported girder bridge that simple design, convenient construction, economic and durable, but also has smooth and less joints at the same time. However, the continuous slab-deck is mounted in the end of the beam where deformation is maximum. It bends, elongates and compresses with the beams together, the stress in the continuous slab-deck is very complicated.Niuguling Bridge and Gaopeng Bridge which are simply supported girder bridges with continuous slab-deck in a highway of Guangdong province are the engineering background of this paper. In this paper, the author study the stress characteristics of continuous slab-deck in four parts.Firstly, using linear elastic theory to analysis the stress of deck under the loading of vehicle, asphalt, temperature and girder deflection. and doing the numerical analysis of Niuguling bridge and Gaopeng bridge by the theory.Then, establishing the finite element model of Niuguling and Gaopeng bridge by Midas FEA as well as comparing the results of linear calculation. The calculation results show that vehicle and temperature load produce the largest stress, and with the increase of span, the vehicles load produce more stress but the temperature is not obvious.The third part is to do the nonlinear analysis and the calculation results show that the continuous slab-deck is easy to produce cracks in the middle position and the end of the isolation layer, the steels in the deck sustain the main tensile stress.The final part is to finish the 24-hours temperature experiment of the two bridges and the experiment results is consistent with the calculation results.This paper summarized the stress characteristics of continuous slab-deck in the Guangdong district through above researches, and these conclusions can provide reference for the same structure design and improvement.
