With the rapid development of our social economy, the rapid growth of traffic and ever-increasing vehicle load both demand higher requirement on the asphalt pavement performance. However, the asphalt pavement constructed currently can not meet the requirements. Many new road surface have occurred diseases, such as shoving, folding, rutting, pit groove, cracking, flushing, loosening and others, during the initial period of the using time, although it is too short to reach the design life, which not only caused great economic loss, and also decreased the traffic safety. In order to solve the above problems, the paper intends to exploratory study on the gradation design method of asphalt mixture based on pavement performance and the pavement performance of asphalt mixtures with composite fibers.Firstly, the paper studyed on the gradation design method of asphalt mixture based on pavement performance. Take AC-20 and SMA-13 for example, the paper used fuller model fitting analysis and mathematically derived the G/S formula with three representative type of gradation based on the gradation range in specification. Through the research, the correlation between the mixture gradation shape factor n, the G/S and the mixture performance is eventually established. Then a recommended range of G/S and the shape factor n was proposed based on modified asphalt mixture.Secondly, the paper studied on the performance of SMA with different fibers, and revealed the effect of the different types of fibers on asphalt mixture performance. It’s found that the basalt fiber has a more significant effect on improving the Comprehensive performance of asphalt mixture, especially the high temperature properties, while the polyester fiber has an more obvious effect on improving the low temperature properties of the mixture, and lignin fibers, has the worst effect on improving the performances of asphalt mixtures comparing with the basalt and the polyester fiber.The paper also studied on the performance of SMA with composite fibers that are consist of lignin and basalt, as well as lignin and polyester. The results showed that the road performance of SMA mixture has a more substantial upgrade with the composite fibers, and the best composite proportion of lignin and basalt, as well as lignin and polyester are both 2:1. And then the applicability of the composite fibers in the AC-13 mixture was tested.In the end, the paper concluded the construction technology of the asphalt mixture with composite fibers.
