With the development of modern electric power grid, the level of the fault currents during short circuit increases gradually. The short-circuit current will directly affects the selection of electrical equipment, the level of safety and stability of power systems. And resistant superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) is considered as one of the most ideal current limiting devices. When the short-circuit current occurs, SFCL can change its state from superconducting to the normal state in a very short period of time to constrain the short-circuit current. The second general high-temperature superconducting tapes are the main material to manufacture resistive SFCLs. In the process to design a SFCL, we should consider many characteristic parameters of tapes. In this paper, we mainly research the endurable quenching voltage and endurable electrodynamic fore of tapes. These two performance of tapes are very important for designing a SFCL. The endurable quenching voltage will directly decide the length of tapes in a SFCL, and the endurable electrodynamic force will affects the spatial arrangement of tapes. In this paper, we construct the experimental systems to research the two kinds of performance. For studying the endurable quenching voltage, we analyze the factors may affect it with experiment. And the value of SJTU tapes’ maximum endurable quenching voltage is tested. For the endurable electrodynamic force, we use a high speed camera to shoot the process of the deformation of tapes when experiencing quench. And we analyze the influencing factors of it through experiment. We also use COMSOL to simulate the electrodynamic force and deformation of tapes to make a contrast with the experiment. And the work is to make sure the performance of tapes will not be damaged, when the SFCL we designed experiences the short-circuit current. The results acquired in this paper can give a guide for optimizing the design of a resistive SFCL.
