Based on the advantages of coal, electricity and gas industry, Shanxi Province has a unique application environment to promote the new energy vehicles. In order to solve the excess coal production capacity and consume ample power, our province put forward the development ideas of creating three new energy automobile industry bases which focusing on electric, methanol and gas, and come up with “several policies and measures for Shanxi province to accelerate the development and application of new energy automotive industry” and “major projects’ views to layout and promote the new energy automobile industry in Shanxi Province” which decide to comprehensively promote the development and application of new energy automotive industry from 2015.Considering with the continuous development of cities and the expansion of scale, the demand for light commercial vehicles is increasing day by day in city government, enterprises and institutions of official business of short distance commuter, logistics distribution, postal service, medical, patrol and law enforcement. In these areas that have the characteristics of regional operation and short distance, pure electric vehicles which can effectively avoid the problem of inconvenient electric car charging and Short mileage range have good prospects for promotion, besides which have the advantages of low operating cost, low noise and air pollution, in line with the country and the province’s new energy vehicle support and subsidies range. So we have combined with the Success Automobile Co., Ltd. of Shanxi province to put forward the research and development of this project.Through cooperation with the Automobile Research Institute of Shanxi province Success Automobile Manufacture Co., Ltd. The project which receives fund form Shanxi Province Economic and Information Committee on technical innovation project(CX2014-45) develops the urban logistics MINI-PEV(miniature pure electric vehicle) based on Success automobile 6430 model fuel oil micro bus’ s platform and the analysis of urban logistics’ characters. This paper focuses on the design of energy management system and powertrain for urban logistics MINI-PEV, having mainly done the following work:1) Design and manufacture of powertrain for urban logistics MINI-PEV. The urban logistics MINI-PEV’s operating characteristics are set by researching and analysising of relevant dataes, and the vehicle’ powertrain is design and based on the analysis result. The motor, transmission and battery have been match.2) Design and implementation of the vehicle energy management system. Based on the matching result of power battery, the hardware architecture of energy management system is designed. The hardware circuits of the battery control module are designed which mainly contains the total control MCU selection, power supply circuit, current acquisition circuit, CAN communication circuit and part of the MCU peripheral circuits. The hardware circuits of the battery measurement and control module are designed which contains voltage acquisition circuit, temperature acquisition circuit and balance control circuit.3) Design of core software module of energy management system based on C language which main contains battery information collection, battery state estimation, battery balance control, battery SOC estimation and CAN communication. Based on operation characteristics of urban logistics vehicle,I use the comprehensive SOC evaluation scheme including the OCV-SOC initial correction and current time integral,which can mprove the accuracy. The addresses of energy management system, vehicle controller and off-board charger are allocated and the CAN network application layer protocol of the energy management system is developed by referencing the protocol of SAE J1939. The CAN communication display screen is designed by using HMI interface platform4) Prototype of urban logistics MINI-PEV is developed and the energy and power system of the pure electric city is preliminarily tested and verified. Test results show that the vehicle maximum speed is 95km/h, the time used to accelerate the vehicle from zero speed to 50km/h is 5.6s and the endurance mileage reaches 90 km in the simulation of city logistics condition with the battery discharge depth of 85%, which reach the vehicle’s powertrain’s design requirements. Energy management system has achieved the balance of battery charging function and had a good accuracy of SOC estimation. The energy management system has achieved the battery information function of collecting, analysis, processing, display and alarming during the vehicle performance test and subsequent application of the process.
