Compared with the traditional mechanical gear transmission, the magnetic gear transmission is based on the operation of magnetic field without mechanical contact, it can overcome some inevitable shortcomings of mechanical gear transmission such as friction loss, vibration, noise and other issues, and magnetic gear has the function of overload protection. Combined with the traditional structure of the magnetic field modulation magnetic gear, this paper propose and design a new type of axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear(AF-FMMG), which the parameters and characteristics of AF-FMMG were analyzed and studied in detail.Firstly, the basic structure and working principle of the magnetic field modulated magnetic gear are analyzed. Then the method of calculating the torque of magnetic gear is illustrated, which is the finite element method. In this paper, the finite element method is chosen as the design method of the axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear, and the electromagnetic field analysis software JMAG is introduced.Second, a simple structure with axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear is designed, the influence of axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear structural parameters on the properties of gear was analyzed, the electromagnetic field analysis of JAMG software of finite element simulation analysis were given, the optimal results was selected, and final structure parameters of axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear were determined.Besides, based on the optimization of axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear, three-dimensional finite element model of the magnetic gear was established in electromagnetic field analysis software JMAG. The magnetic field analysis and the analysis to the static torque and the steady state torque of axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear was given.Finally, based on the design of the axial-field flux modulated magnetic gear and for the purpose of reducing permanent magnet quantity and improve the permanent magnet utilization rate, this paper proposed the three improved magnetic gear. Four magnetic gear torque characteristics were compared and put forward next research work to finish.
