Along with the application of the finite element method in bridge engineering field, a precise finite element model of the bridge has a key role in bridge structural health monitoring system, evaluation and structural damage identification. The finite element model of the bridge structure established in accordance with construction drawings and specifications would be to simplify the structure of the material properties and boundary conditions, this has led to some differences between the finite element model and the actual structure. And it is difficult to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of analysis results. Finite element model updating is through to modify the design parameters so that the updated finite element model could truly reflect the actual state of the bridge. Integrated the advantages and disadvantages of all kinds of finite element model updating method, this paper use the finite element model updating based on response surface method, which is more efficient, simple and converges faster, and it can serve as the benchmark model for further damage identification and condition assessment of the frame structure and so on.Based on collecting about the theory of finite element model updating and response surface technology,introduced the theory of finite element model updating. Focus on several key issues, including correlation analysis, selection of the correction parameter, establishment of the objective function and Optimization analysis. Then the response surface technology in the application of finite element model updating are expounded, focusing on each step of the finite element model updating based on response surface technology made a detailed introduction. Then through model updating and damage identification of a simply supported beam, confirming the accuracy and reliability of the method.Finally, the Huang Gong bridge as the engineering background, using ANSYS to establish the initial finite element model. The date of the Static and dynamic load test was the updating target, updated this bridge model using the finite element model updating method based on response surface technology. And the error is within 2%. Using the measured values of other conditions for validation. The results of the validation error is small, which confirmed the method feasibility and reliability in the application of engineering.
