Highway median strip opening is necessary facility of maintaining highway to operate normally. However, the defensive capability of active guardrail in the highway median strip opening, therefore, under the premise of meeting the active performance, to analyze its protective ability has great research value. This paper presents two models of the guarerail, including beam type and nesting type, and through the crash simulation between guardrail and real-size vehicle model, it verifies that the protective ability of two new active guardrail meets standards of safety evaluation. The main work is as follows:It proposes two active guardrail model, and conducts simulation analysis. By nonlinear finite element method, basing on the collision barrier protection performance specification requirements Am level, it establishes beam type and nested finite element model of active guardrail and vehicles. By using LS-DYNA software, it analyzes the crash simulation between guardrail and vehicle. The results show that the two type can meet the safety standard guardrail, but the extent of damage is different. In the post-processing analysis, and comparison of two vehicles running track after a collision with the vehicle to get the guardrail, the deformation of vehicle and guardrail, vehicle acceleration and other parameters, and ultimately selects the nested activities as optimal guardrail model at median strip.By analyzing crash simulation between nested active guardrail and vehicle, it researches various of crash parameters to the impact of defensive capability. For initial velocity including 60 km / h, 65 km / h, 70 km / h, 75 km / h, 80 km / h, and for collision angle including 10 °, 15 °, 20 °, 25 °, 30 °, it analyzes the impact of defensive capability. The results show that with the increase of the initial velocity and impact angle, the energy of absorbing by the collision process is greater. Although the difference of guardrail’s overall deformation is not obvious, the maximum deformation of the guardrail will increase.In this paper, although there are some errors in the simulation, but it still has certain reference value about guardrail in the highway median strip opening.
