Intelligent distribution network is an important part of smart grid; it plays a crucial role to ensure the safety of the power distribution system. the latest trends of the intelligent distribution network is of a higher level of distribution automation, as far as possible to reduce artificial intervention, improve the distribution network "self-healing" ability. The purpose of this paper is to explore and research the fault handling automation technology through the analysis of the control target of intelligent power distribution network, and distribution of fault type. In this paper several kinds of novel and effective processing scheme are discussed mainly, and through the practical application cases to introduce the concrete application of the new technology. This paper introduces the requirement and the specific meaning of "self-healing" technology, and introduces the new technology from three aspects that are intelligent device, running reliability, distributed network.In order to solve the contradiction between quickness and selective in power distribution network protection this paper put forward the network protection technology thanks to the application of computer technology and network communication technology multiple sites can achieve information sharing so as to realize coordination of protection. In order to achieve the automatic separation of the distribution fault zone and to improve the reliability of load shifting this paper put forward the distributed intelligent control technology using relevant site peer exchange of real-time measurement and control data which can be realized using multiple sites of measurement information and also can avoid the communication and data processing delay long by the control center. To improve the efficiency of finding the distribution fault point and the earlier realization of fault repair this paper put forward the failure automatic positioning technology, through the fault indicator technology, GSM communication technology, and integrated application of GIS (geographic information system) technology, developed a set of automatic and efficient point of failure detection and positioning system, including the interphase short circuit and fault of single-phase grounding fault location for automatic detection and location. On this basis, this paper applies Siemens self-healing system to analysis the fault of distribution network.
