With the development of Power System, the electricity demand is increasing. Better power quality and more steady power supply are required. Traditional transmission line monitoring methods are not suitable for the rapidly developing power network. The problem of condition monitoring of overhead high-voltage transmission line is becoming more and more serious. The abnormal state of transmission line should be uploaded to the monitoring center in time and the cause of the problem should be determined and eliminated in the shortest time so that the losses caused by the accident and its impact can be reduced.Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) is a hot spot in the field of domestic and foreign scholars, which can be combined with the transmission line condition monitoring, contributing to the design of monitoring system with low power consumption, low cost, compact structure and easy arrangement. So the problems faced by the current transmission line monitoring can be solved.IPv6 is the next Internet Architecture generation. 6LoWPAN which based on Ipv6 is wireless personal area network(WPAN) with low power consumption. It can realize the condition monitoring of transmission line with the combination of IEEE 802.15.4 and Power System. 6LoWPAN has the advantages of low cost, low power consumption, high reliability, multi-node, far communication distance, etc. Compared with the same kind of wireless communication technology, it has a great superiority. The cost of transmission line condition monitoring can be reduced with the application of 6LoWPAN technology and it has a high feasibility.The condition monitoring system of high voltage transmission line studied in this paper monitors the operation and environmental parameters of the line with the set of large numbers of monitoring nodes. And the parameters are uploaded to the monitoring center by gateway nodes according to the demand of Power System. The monitoring node uses CC2530 as the controller, and the radio frequency power amplifier CC2592 for wireless data transceiver. It can connect a variety of sensors and other equipment with the support of varied interface extensions. The monitoring node has the function of power induction, which can take power of the large current in transmission line. It avoids the frequent replacement of the monitoring node battery, so that nodes can realize long time stable operation. Gateway node is the edge router of transmission line condition monitoring system, using CC2538 as the controller, with higher computing and processing power. And connecting the gateway node with Ethernet control chip ENC28J60 can communicate with the control center through the wired network. The monitoring system shown in this paper uses the open source Contiki as the system of 6LoWPAN transmission line monitoring network and uses lightweight protocol stack u IP to realize it.Finally, the 6LoWPAN high voltage transmission line condition monitoring system is tested in this paper. The result shows that, the packet loss rate, throughput and network delay of the system meet the design and transmission line monitoring requirements, which has certain applied value..
