The distribution network is an important part of the power grid, which is responsible for the important task of supplying electricity to urban and rural areas. At present, with the gradual improvement of high quality service level of power supply enterprise, the power quality is difficult to meet the needs of people’s life, so a large number of power supply enterprises have put forward higher requirements for the safe and reliable operation of distribution network. As the distribution network becomes more complex, there are a lot of uncertain factors occurred in the power distribution network, such as complex faults, unwanted operation and refuse operation in the switch and the protection as well as the loss of information due to information interference, which will cause considerable difficulties to the distribution network manager quickly identify and locate the fault, timely implement the fault repairmen, and quickly restore power supply. This will seriously affect the reliability of distribution network power supply, not only to the economic losses of power supply enterprises, but also affect the normal production and living of urban and rural residents. With the combination of power system and geographic information system(GIS), a new method of fault location is emerged.This paper is based on the current situation of distribution network in Songgang area, through analyzing the existing fault location process, and then put forward the method of using GIS technology to realize fault location. Firstly, this paper analyzes the structural characteristics of distribution network, GIS network model characteristics and distribution network modeling method is introduced, and the study of the GIS based distribution network topology analysis for the study of fault location and laid the foundation for the realization. After theoretical study and engineering practice, this paper obtains the following research results:First, the author studies the method of fault location on supervise area, and uses a location method based on Bayes formula. This method handles SCADA fault information succinctly and shields distorted and error information. Fault probability and maximal remarkable degree are adopted to establish fault location model. This location method is simple and effective.Second, after analyzing the fault location problem on non-supervise area, the paper suggests a method based on rough set theory. Due to the rough set theory in dealing with imprecise problems, do not need to supply any prior information on problem solving and can in the retention of key information under the premise of data of simplification and obtain the knowledge of minimal expression. Therefore, it is suitable for measurement automation monitoring system to alarm information as a source of information for fault location. When the fault alarm information is not the key information, it will not affect the result, which has good fault tolerance.Finally, the application of the above research results in Songgang District of distributio n GIS project developed fault location function of the project, through the comparison with the traditional positioning methods, thus in theory and practice respectively to verify the high efficiency and feasibility of the above results.
