The pole-mounted switch is a core unit in distribution network. The intelligent degree of supporting controllers determines the quality of power distribution network automation. As there are a variety of relay protection solutions for power distribution network, pole-mounted switch controllers on the current market are diversified but their relay protection functions are simple. For this situation, based on traditional pole-mounted switches, embedded system-cored control technology was introduced, a combination of ARM processor and Linux operating system was adopted, and an intelligent controller was finally developed in this paper. Combining the characteristics of distribution network and working performance of the pole-mounted switches, a software system with different relay protection functions that can communicate, configure and upgrade online for pole-mounted switch controllers was designed.Samsung S3C2440 processor based on ARM920 T kernel was used on the embedded system hardware platform of the controller, and embedded Linux operating system was ported as required to the hardware system. Qt/Embedded software platform was ported on the embedded Linux operating system, so an object-oriented software environment was established.The object-oriented approach was adopted on the framework design of software. Software was divided into various modules, and the connection between various modules was properly planned, to make software readable, easy-to-maintain and scalable.With respect to specific functions of software, the design and coding of hardware drive, relay protection function, IEC60870-5-101 communication protocols, human-machine interface and online upgrade solution was completed. Relay protection functions mainly include the three-section and zero-sequence current protection for pole-mounted circuit breaker, the reclosing function for pole-mounted re-closer, voltage-time/current-count/current-voltage sectionalizer for pole-mounted load switch, etc..Finally, through an experimental platform connecting a three-phase relay protection tester and a sample apparatus, the function of software and the correctness of relay protection functions were verified. Connecting the sample apparatus to communication channel, the communication, online configuration and online upgrade functions were verified.
