Electric railway began in 1940 s. The railway transportation has become people’s mainly way of travel within years of rapid development. Because of this, people’s daily life was affected by the safe and stable operation of the railway deeply. However, the electrified railway load was impacted.On the other hand power factor changed drastically all the time,when the system power factor was low because of the compensation device poor reactive power to the power supply system easily. At the same time, the locomotive was a nonlinear load and it will develop a large number of harmonics during its working period.It makes the harmonic current of the Traction Supply System increases. Therefore, this article proposed a research on reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression of electric iron.This article introduced the working principle and mathematical model of MCR also analyzed the causes of the loss of MCR. Based on the single stage MCR, the expression of the harmonic current of the double stages MCR was derived. The analysis results show that the MCR will also produce some harmonic currents. At the same time, the trigger angle control model of MCR was set up according to the closed loop PID control strategy.Regard the CRH2 and SS6 B locomotives as the research object, using Matlab/Simulink,electrified railway power quality control model of the locomotive alone and mixed running operation was build respectively. The influence of railway traction power supply system produced by the impact load mode under locomotive load state was analyzed, and the harmonics suppression and reactive power compensation of the electrified railway was simulated. The simulation results show that the MCR and HAPF scheme has a better effect on electrification for the railway power quality comprehensive treatment.
