Atrium is an important part of the contemporary public buildings. It is a natural climatic reactivity space of exterior and interior spaces, which can play a positive role in control the overall energy, climate and environmental pollution. However, in contemporary atrium design, due to the huge volume and the use of glass, the characteristic of ecology of the atriums have been ignored.Quanzhou area which located in southern Fujian, is in the subtropical climate partition and have hot and humid climate, use natural ventilation in taking away heat is one of the important methods to reduce energy consumption. As energy conservation becoming more and more important,many architects are paying attention to the ventilation environment design of atrium to reduce building energy consumption. In this thesis, author used numerical simulation as the main technical means, combined with actual measurement, focusing on ventilation environment of the small and medium sized atrium in Quanzhou. And through optimize the ventilation environment and analyze, the author proposed some ventilation environmental of atrium design strategies for Quanzhou areas.This study is divided into four parts:The first part introduced the background and contents of the study, and determined the scope and significance of this study. Than describe the development process of the atrium and the theory and practice of domestic and international researches.The second part of the thesis classified the atriums, analyzed the mechanisms of natural ventilation of the atrium, and elements which impact atrium ventilation environment are analyzed and summarized.The third part is the core of this study. This part has two chapters. The third chapter is the research of the atriums in Quanzhou areas, and actual measurement of typical atrium cases. The fourth chapter simulates the ventilation environment of typical atrium case, combined with the actual measurement data, and then optimizes the ventilation environment, and finally summarizes the conclusions.The fourth part is the fifth chapter, through a comparative analysis of the results, and combined with the first two chapters conclusions, this chapter propose the design strategies of atrium ventilation environmental for Quanzhou areas.
