With the rapid development of CFD and fluid test technology, it is developing rapidly of centrifugal pump flow problem research. However, because of the complexity of the centrifugal pump impeller inverse problem, the progress is slow. At present, the design of the centrifugal pump impeller is mainly based on the theory of traditional design, the optimization design is difficult to achieve. In recent years, some new optimization theory and method was successfully applied in 2D or 3D centrifugal pump impeller by our research team, such as response surface, incomplete sensitivity, adjoint method, free form deformation. It further expand optimization design theory and method of hydraulic machinery.On the basis of the research work in the last few years, the study introduce the method of proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) in the field of hydraulic machinery optimization design. The research object is a 2D impeller from low specific speed centrifugal pump and a 3D impeller from medium specific speed centrifugal pump. Blade shape are parameterized by Taylor polynomial and Bezier curve, and the initial snapshots is generated by introducing the perturbation of the blade shape control parameter. The internal flow field and its hydraulic performance is predicted by CFD method. The snapshots vector includes the blade shape parameter and the distribution of blade load. It also compiles the program code based on MATLAB. Specific research include the following aspects:1. It introduces the theory of the proper orthogonal decomposition in the field of hydraulic machinery optimization design, puts forward a new design method of centrifugal pump impeller- The Inverse Method of Centrifugal Pump Impeller Based on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition(POD) Method. The cases show that the proposed centrifugal pump blade inverse method based on POD have good robustness and high accuracy, and its calculation cost is greatly reduced, which further perfect optimization design theory of the hydraulic machinery.2. The Iterative correction algorithm for the centrifugal pump blade inverse method based on POD is proposed. The objective blade load distributions are corrected according to the difference of the CFD result and the POD result, and then continue the iteration of the inverse problem.3. The control of Blade line and the inverse method of centrifugal pump impeller is implemented by MATLAB code, which is strong stability.4. The two-dimensional circular blade from a low specific speed centrifugal pump is parameterized by Taylor’s polynomial, and inverse design test are made based on POD method. The case proved the applicability of the POD method in two-dimensional blade inverse design.5. The three-dimensional twisted blade from a low specific speed centrifugal pump is parameterized by Bezier curve, and inverse design test are made based on POD method. The case proved the applicability of the POD method in three-dimensional blade inverse design.
