Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) is widely used in power system now. To ensure its safety and reliability, it is necessary to carry out the partial discharge (PD) on-line monitoring technology for GIS to find out and handle the insulation defect within.In this dissertation, the PD mechanism in GIS was described and the method for PD pulse was analyzed. Typical insulation defects within GIS were introduced in detail. Then the principle and structure of the PD on-line monitoring system for GIS base on ultra-high frequency (UHF) method were introduced.The Design and accomplishment of evaluation and diagnosis system for GIS was the core content in the dissertation. First, the sampling data of PD was processed. Second, a wide range of statistical and characteristic parameters were extracted from data. Third, the characteristic diagrams of PD were constructed. This system can be used to diagnose the PD type and evaluate the extent of PD for GIS. Real-time data processing, database interaction, fault alarming and diagrams querying were realized in it. This evaluation and diagnosis system was proved to work effectively and practically by PD detection experiment.At the end of the dissertation, a systematical summary was given and further work to the research was also pointed out.
