Nowadays, there are some software problems in medical and health services. For example, medical institutions at all levels of the same region are operating in their own information management systems, which do not have interface with one another, leading to failure of sharing the patient’s medical data. In order to integrate medical information within the same region, a master patient index system needs to be established, which intergrates the separate medical data from different institutions into an organic whole for the purpose of meeting the requirements of the relevant institutions and personnel.In this thesis, firstly, the integration of technology for personal identification has been studied by comparative analysis, using PID matching and merging programs. As a mainstream technology solution to ID matching and merging, IHE PIX integration program has been analyzed in detail. Secondly, through preprocessing the patient’s basic information and identity data, the reasonable patient identity matching strings hane been selected. Then, a patient identity matching algorithm has been designed by using the screened patient identity matching strings and the string split matching has been proposed as a solution to the problem of the address information matching. Finally, modules in the main index system have been designed and implemented, such as paiicul icgisiiaiion information, patient information query, automatic merging, manual merging, manual split, and external services.The scientific creation and application of master patient index system are capable of providing maintenance for the patient’s unique identity mpiID and sharing the patient’s medical information from different health care institutions in the same region. Master patient index system will play a signigicant part in constructing regional health information platform and providing high-quality medical care and comprehensive medical services for the people.
