Traditional investment methods depend on fund manager’s personal subjective judgement have faced with more challenges with the rise of market complexity and the development of new investment techniques. More and more investors are beginning to focus on quantitative investment. The importance of quantitative investment is gradually being recognized. Quantitative products are starting to get popular on China’s financial market. New products has been released by funds, security firms and private funds.The history of quantitative investment dated back to more than30years ago. This type of investment gets more and more recognized by investors because of its stabilized return. Its market share has been risen as well. In1970quantitative methods had zero market share. However by2009quantitative methods’share of all investment products rose to over30%. About20%to30%of active invest products use quantitative techniques in their investments. In china only20billion RMB is currently managed by quantitative funds and it only accounts for less than1%of the whole market share. It could be said with absolute certainty that quantitative investment has a great potential in China.This thesis starts from the basic concept of quantitative investment and shows its differences from traditional investment methods; It also introduces the development of quantitative investment overseas and the potential it has in China’s financial market; After analyzing the features of most popular quantitative techniques in China right now, it shows the differences being brought to the market by quantitative investment; At last, what has been applied by Haitong Securities to enhance the quantitative investment are introduced and it also suggests the arrangements need to be done.
