Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited, Traditional Chinese:渣打银行(中国)有限公司)is a licensed bank incorporated in China mainland and a subsidiary of Standard Chartered. It is also the oldest bank in China since its150years’ business experience in Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland. Having gained RMB license in2007, Standard Chartered (China) has offered RMB service for many domestic residents and promising enterprises after China joined World Trade Organization (WTO). Now it has a stronger customer base and meanwhile wins a better brand reputation. However, the statistics showed that all the foreign banks’ extension speed, assets scale, profits and performance are not so good as anticipated. What is more, the whole market share is only1.93%, which is too small to be emphasized. So as a senior manager in foreign bank who witnessed the change of Standard Chartered (China) and after fully assessing the external environment and its ability to make appropriate, I want to find solutions through the study of oriental management and Chinese classical literature.This paper adopts literature analysis and empirical analysis, using the essence of oriental management which was gained from Romance of the Three Kingdoms to make analysis and to solve problems of foreign banks. First of all, we carried on a deep analysis of foreign banks’ external macro environment and industry environment, realizing Standard Chartered (China)’s potential opportunity and extension possible threat. Secondly, this paper use SWOT analysis to evaluate Standard Chartered (China)’s abilities and internal resources, building its strength and weakness. Finally, on the basis of SWOT analysis, we formed strategic alternatives for the sustainable development of Standard Chartered (China) and determined the strategic solutions which are " emphasize human resource management "," construct unparalleled competitive advantages " and "improve the relationships with government, supervisions and rivalry ".This paper tries to give suggestions for Standard Chartered (China)’s sustainable development, hoping this strategic planning can help Standard Chartered (China) in the new round of industry competition, and leading other foreign banks to improve in their businesses in China.
