With the development of the aerospace industry, as a new type of space structure, the membrane structure has been more and more applied to the spacecraft because of its advantages of light weight, large folding area, high storage ratio, etc. But due to the characteristics of high flexibility, weak resistance to bending and high vibration frequency, the study on the mechanical problems of membrane structure under is necessary.This paper uses the absolute nodal coordinate formulation to study the mechanical properties of the membrane structure. The absolute nodal coordinate formulation is an effective method to study the motion of the flexible body, which chooses global displacement coordinates and slopes established in the global coordinate system as the nodal coordinates, and the mass matrix is constant.The construction of one-dimensional beam element, two-dimensional beam element, three-dimensional beam element, and three-dimensional thin plate element based on the absolute nodal coordinate formulation were introduced. And the mass matrix, the elastic force matrix and stiffness matrix with the generalized force matrix based on the three-dimensional thin plate element were derived. Then a general calculation formula of boundary conditions and the dynamic equations were established, and presented a method to speed up the calculation of stiffness matrix.The membrane elements were established based on the absolute nodal coordinate formulation. The expression of the elastic force for the membrane struture was derived according to the Kirchhoff plate theory, and the dynamic equation was given. By applying the impact on the membrane structure, the vibration characteristics were studied. And the influences of in-plane ptestress and structural parameters on the vibration characteristics of membrane were analyzed.The static equation was built, and the Newton iteration method was used to solve the static equations in the static analysis. The static characteristic of membrane structures was analyzed, and the relationships between deformation and tension under the pure tensile force were given. The deformation, stress distribution and the slopes of global displacement coordinates under the external force were carried out, and the effects of prestress on the deformation, stress distribution and the slopes of global displacement coordinates were analyzed.
