It is conducted to investigate the relative vigor index of4types of seeds includingendosperm no crack, endosperm single crack,endosperm double crack and endosperm turtlecrack by using the maize hybrid seeds as experimental materials. During seed germination,westudied the changes of the seed water absorption, storage material conversion andutilization, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, peroxidase (POD) activity, catalase (CAT)activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) content and membrane permeability. Hope toprovide theoretical reference for high quality maize hybrid seed production.The results showed that water dynamic change trend of hybrid maize seeds ofdifferent types of endosperm crack is from fast to slow in24h. But the absorption rate of hybridmaize seed of different endosperm crack types is different at the same time point. From the pointof increased size of protective enzyme activity, the POD activity was the most, the CAT activityin the second, the SOD activity was the least.With the increase of the number of endosperm crack, the effect of endosperm crack onMaize Seed Germination power, germination rate, germination index and vigor index ofperformance had the trend of decrease. Germination power, germination rate, germination indexand vigor index of endosperm no crack seed was the highest and that of endosperm turtle crackwas the lowest.With the increase of the number of endosperm crack, the effect of endosperm on the dryweight of seedling of crack had the trend that the seedling dry weight decreased. The seedlingdry weight of endosperm no crack was highest, that of endosperm single crack the second andthat of endosperm turtle crack was the least.The effects of endosperm crack on storage substance transportation rate, consumption rateand material efficiency of seed germination had the trend that crack caused the reductionof storage matter transportation rate and material efficiency, while the material consumption ratehad been increased. During its germination of7hours, the storage matter transportation rate andmaterial efficiency of endosperm no crack was significantly higher than that of endosperm turtlecrack. While the storage substance consumption rate of endosperm no crack was significantlylower than that of turtle crack.With the seed germination process forward, the activity and membrane permeability ofSOD, POD and CAT all had the trend of increasing. Protective enzyme activity of POD increased the most. That of CAT was the second. And that of SOD was the least. During seedgermination of different types of endosperm crack, all the protective enzyme activity wasendosperm turtle crack <endosperm double crack<endosperm single crack<endosperm nocrack.During seed germination, the MDA content declined gradually. For the content of MDA,endosperm turtle crack was the most. That of endosperm double crack was the second. That ofendosperm no crack was the least. It showed that the endosperm crack had adverse effectson Seed Germination Metabolism. So in seed production, the production of the crack should bereduced. |
