West Ordos National nature reserve was a special area of western China steppe desert.As an important ultra-xerophytic shrubs in the reserve.Zygophyllum xanthoxylum had significant role on conservation water and soil,desertification control. Because of its community couldn’t reproduction by tending treatments,and its growth recession,plant pest and disease damage seriously, ecological effect reduce obviously. It was an important issue to strengthen protection and management of the eremophyte Z. Xanthoxylum in the future. Z. Xanthoxylum in West Ordos National nature reserve was select as experimental materials, guided by the modern vegetation ecology and restoration ecology and adopting the means of combining field investigation and indoor analysis,we conducted this comprehensive study on the effect of vegetation and soil restoration during its compensatory growth so as to master comprehensively its restoration effect,provided theoretic basis for scientific measures for vegetation management and utilization.The conclusion was as follows:1. Growth characteristics:Z. Xanthoxylumfollowing aboveground tissue removal, the height,crown size,length and diameter of current year shoot increased with stubble time,its height could reach to101.50cm after removal for3a.2. Compared with the control (CK), the Pn increase significantly (p<0.01); ForCi, control was higher than stubble for la and3a by24.36%,4.75%respectively;As leaf area,stubble for1a and3a was higher than CK for323.81%and83.33%;The daily average of WUE was:stumping for3a(2.38)>stumping for1α(2.33)>CK(1.25).The small branch water potential of Z. xanthoxylum was:stumping for3a>stumping for1α>CK.3.The change of MDA、SOD、POD of Z. xanthoxylum was:CK>stumping for3a>stumping for la,Pro changed in contrast; Chlorophyll content changed as:CK<stumping for1α<stumping for3a.4.The change of the leaf temperature for different stubble years Z. xanthoxylum was: stumping for1α>CK>stumping for3a>air temperature, stumping for1a and3a leaf temperature difference is significant(p<0.01), after stumping,the leaf temperature extremely significant difference with CK(p<0.01);The change of hai was:CK(0.34)> stumping for3a(0.25)>stumping for1α(0.21).5.Soil physical and chemical properties change after stumping as follows:for soil water content, interspaces> canopy brim>rhizosphere;The fraction grain of rhizosphere, canopy brim, interspaces increased with the distance from the plant, sand grains reduced in the overall content, the proportion of particle and clay particles increased; The content of soil available P, alkaline N.available K and organic matter content:rhizosphere> canopy brim>interspaces;The change of pH value was:rhizosphere>canopy brim> interspaces,and CK>stumping;The soil EC under stumping Z. xanthoxylum was lower than CK.
