This paper study the effect of exclosure on soil physical and chemical property and vegetation on the degraded pastures which have been fenced for2year,4years,6years in Xilamuren area. Conclusions are drawn as follows:(1) Exclouse can avoid animal grazing and trampling, effectively promote the growth of vegetation. With the increase of the enclosing time, vegetation coverage, vegetation height, vegetation biomass and important value of the most dominant species(Stipa krylovii)are gradually increasing. There are no significant change of species quantity after exclouse.(2) Exclouse dramatically affected soil physical property in0-5cm and5-20cm soil layer. With the increase of the enclosing time, both soil clay content and soil porosity are raised in each layer. Soil water content is increasing in0-5cm soil layer while it is decreasing in5-20cm.Soil bulk density is decreasing.(3) Exclouse can promote the vegetation restoration, also increase soil microbial biomass, soil are improved. The content of soil organic matter, available nitrogen, available phosphorus are increasing with the time, and in exclouse area are higher than control area. Conversely, with the increase of the enclosing time, soil available potassium content are decreasing in both0-5cm and5-20cm layer, the minimum value are observed in enclosed for six years plot.(4) Grassland vegetation index and physical-chemical characters are significant correlated with enclosing years.
