The analysis of blood parameters is useful in the assessment and monitoring of thecondition of aquatic organisms. Monopterus albus, commonly called the rice or swamp eel, taxonomically belongs to the teleosts, family Synbran chiformes, of the order Synbranch-iformes. It is one of the most economically important freshwater fishes in China, even inother SoutheastAsian countries. There have been some related reports about the blood index of Monopterus albus, butthe reports of hematology are rarely. The objective of this study is to establish the normalhematologic parameters of Monopterus albus. At the same time, we studied the influenceof two kind ofAeromonas hydrophila on Monopterus albus. We have used10Monopterus albus for the analysis of hematologic parameters. Theclassification of blood cells by Wright-Giemsa staining method. In Monopterus albusperipheral blood, erythrocytes, five types of leucocytes were distinguished and charac-terized. The proportion of peripheral leucocytes is: lymphocytes (46.14%±8.84%)>neutrophils(18.29%±1.85%)>thrombocytes(16.33%±1.92%)>monocytes(14.38%±1.63%)>eosinophilic(5.86%±0.92%).The normal values of routine blood and bloodbiochemistry parameters(AST, ADH, ALP, ALT, Glu, TP, ALB, etc) have beenestablished. We have evaluated the influence of two kind of Aeromonas hydrophila(F5-4-①andG4-10-②) on Monopterus albus. The results suggested that the treatment group have asignificant change on hematologic parameters. For treatment group (F5-4-①107CFU/g),there have a numorus increase about lymphocytes number, the proportion of leucocytesis:lymphocytes(86.32%±3.07%)>thrombocytes7.812%±0.97%)>monocytes (2.85%±1.59%)>neutrophils(2.19%±1.10%)>eosinophilic (0.83%±0.63%). The routine bloodvalues showed that the erythrocytes, leucocytes and hematoglobin have a significantdecrease in treatment group, and the changes are more remarkable followed the concentra-tion of Aeromonas hydrophila. The blood biochemistry showed the insignificant decreaseof Tp, ALB, Glu, CHOL and TG, the remarkable increase of LDH, and the insignificant ofALT, AST, AKP, BUN and CREA.The results indicated that the hematologic parameters ofMonopterus albus by Aeromonas hydrophila. These results can be provided some basicaltheoretical parameters in aquiculture.
