Heliocoverpa armigera Nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearNPV) belong to the karyotype ofBaculovirus, polyhedrovirus. HearNPV can cause regional epidemics against insects, and itsspecificity is cotton bollworm. So far, the studies on functional genomics of HearNPV hadvery good progress, but the interaction between virus and host insects was not studiedextensively. Therefore, the effects on host insects metabolic enzyme activity and the encodedgene expression level by HearNPV infection to cotton bollworm could help us to understandthe interaction between virus and host. The main results achieved in this study werefollowing:1) There was significant effect on host insects metabolic enzymes activity ofPeroxidase(POD) and Glutathione S-transferase (GST) by HearNPV infection to the cottonbollworm. After HearNPV infected to the host insects, metabolic enzymes activity of GSTand POD increased in the intestinal cells of cotton bollworm significantly. But with theextension of interaction time, the virus had an inhibitory effect on the metabolic enzymesactivity.2) As well there was significant effect on host insects gene expression level encodedGST after HearNPV infection to cotton bollworm. HearNPV can regulate the expression levelencoded by GST of host insects. At the beginning of the infection, the expression of GST inhost insects is up-regulated by HearNPV, and was dramatically down-regulated at late stageof infection.3) Also there was significant effect on host insects gene expression level of heat shockprotein gene (HSP) by HearNPV infection. When cotton bollworm infected by HearNPV, itsHSPthe expression of HSP was up-regulated at early stage of infection and it wasdramatically down-regulated finally.Above results show that the activities and the expression levels of metabolic enzymeswere regulated by an infection of HearNPV to cotton bollworm. These results provide basicdata to understand the mechanisms for interaction between virus and its host insects.
