This study aims to carry out experiments with the techniques of fish fries rearing in thegreenhouse ponds. It reveals, after4years of study, that by means of improving fish cultureand the feeding techniques, regulating water quality, and preventing diseases, fries productionin Ningxia has been characterized by low cost, high efficiency, easy promotion and goodreturns etc. Most importantly, a more complete fries rearing system has been formed.Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, located in the hinterland of northwest China and in theupper and middle reaches of the Yellow River, enjoys abundant fishery resources. Itsdevelopment level of the fisheries is in the first place in the Northwest region. In2011, thetotal output value of fishery economy reached¥2.15billion. However, as the basis ofaquaculture breeding, fries restricted by local fries breeding ability can not meet the needs ofthe local area. So nearly80%of them are transported from the south. Due to the lack ofeffective supervisions of the fries transported from the south and the appropriate techniquesresponding to Ningxia cold weather in spring, and without sound management and qualitysupervision system in Ningxia, fries production is far from satisfying the demand foraquaculture and has seriously hampered the healthy, sustained and coordinated developmentof fishery industry in Ningxia. One of the best solutions in this study is to explore the propertechniques and breeding methods suited the local climate and production conditions so thatthe problems can be solved thoroughly. The planed experiments undergone since2010, although the information and the dataabout the study had been collected from the year2006, have shown that the growth period offish fries can be extended by about50days when plastic is covered over the fries ponds in themid or late of March to make good use of the solar energy. Thus, the temperature of the pondscan be raised to over20℃within one week after covering plastic because the weather inspring in Ningxia tend to get warm very quickly although cold spells occur frequently. Threebatches of fish fries can be developed in the plastic-covered ponds if the workers are skillfuland the economic benefit are great. So the main advances and conclusions are as followed:1. The growth of fish fries can be extended by about50days by covering plastic overthe fish fries ponds and the breeding cycles can be shortened greatly.2. The survival rate of water aquaculture can be improved sharply. 3. The fish fries diseases can be controlled more effectively because of the comparativelysmall breeding space when summer flowers are planted. thus we can get better quality of thefish fries.4. At least¥60,000per mu of net profit can be reached between the mid or late ofMarch and the end of May when fish fries are raised intensively in the plastic-covered ponds. In short, the breeding techniques in this study have been tested for several years and theyare suitable for the situations in Ningxia area although they are very negligible compared withthose in the developed fishery areas in our country. These techniques, of course, fall under thecategory of practical techniques. But they have been proved to have obtained both theeconomic benefit and the social benefit in the fishery industry of northern areas of our country, especially in the underdeveloped areas such as Ningxia.
