Study On Growth Characteristics And Suitability Evaluation Of 3 Introduced Poplar Clones

This study uses 6-year-old poplar clones: Populus×euramericana cv "I-107", P. ×deltoides ‘Danhong’, P. ×deltoides ‘Sandy’, P. ×deltoides ‘Zhongzhu NO.6’ plantation to carry out growth indexes such as tree height,DBH and volume and compared the growth pattern of different poplar clones under the same growth conditions in Juancheng county-owned forest. The result showed that:(1) 3 introduced poplar clones shown a good growth rate and growth characteristics, were suitable for promotion in Southwest Shandong Province.(2)The growth characteristics of 4 poplar clone’s are different.PopulusבI-107’ grew very rapidly in the early period, poplar clone ‘Sandy’ and ‘ Danhong’ showed obvious late-type characteristic, poplar clone ‘Zhongzhu NO.6’ was not prominent in Growth aspects of tree height, DBH, volume. Compared to the PopulusבI-107’, poplar clones ‘Sandy’ and ‘Danhong’ are more suitable for the cultivation of large diameter timber.(3)Through comparing growth characteristics of 4 poplar clones, the total volume sequencing are: Sandy> Danhong> I-107’>Zhongzhu NO6. poplar clone ‘Sandy’ and ‘ Danhong’ shown strong growth advantage in the late stage no matter in terms of height, diameter or volume, crown. Among different clones, Crown width, tree height, DBH, volume and form number variation regularities were different.(4)The research showed that 6-year-old’s four poplar clones is still in rapid growth, did not reach the quantitative maturity period, as well as not reach harvesting age.
