The issues on environmental risk of genetically modified rice have received great public concerns, especially on the safety of biological diversity. This study investigated responses of the arthropod community in transgenic Bt (crylAb) rice (B4b68 and MFb3301) fields with or without application of pesticides with their non-transgenic isogenic lines (MH86 and MH3301) as controls. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) and analysis of similarities (ANOSIM) were used to analyze the effects of Bt rice on the arthropod community in fields. Further, the indicator taxa characterizing the difference of community structure among treatments were tentatively selected in line with the species contribution scores of PRC and similarity percentage (SIMPER). The results are as follows:There was no significant differences observed in the structure of arthropod community between Bt rice (B4b68 and MFb3301) fields and non-transgenic rice (MH86 and MH3301) fields. Results from NMDS and ANOSIM showed that high similarities in Bray-Curtis coefficients for the entire community, predatory arthropods, neutral arthropods and non-target pests were found among the four treatments, while the parasitoid structures were different between Bt and non-Bt rice fields.Based on the contribution percentage of each species on the community dissimilarity, Anagrus sp., Stenomesius sp., Telenomus sp., T. dignus, S. tabashii and Gonatocerus sp. were selected as the indicator taxa in the parasitoid community. Microvelia horvathi, Runcinia albostriata and Micryphantidae sp. were selected as the indicator taxa in the community of predatory arthropods. Ephydridae, Entomobryidae, Tipulidae and Tababidae were selected as the indicator taxa in the community of neutral arthropods. Eusarcoris guttiger, Oxya chinenxis, Laodelphax striatellus, Pentatomidae nymphae, Delphacidae nymphae, Trogossitidae, Sogatella furcifera and Nezara viridul were selected as the indicator taxa in the community of non-target arthropods.
