A banker plant system is a new type of biological control, taking non-target crops as a banker plant and non-target pest as alternative host to raise beneficial organism, which would be used to control target pests in the fields or greenhouses. In this study, I determined effects of controlling Myzus persicae using the ‘wheat-Sitobion avenae-Aphidius gifuensis’ banker plant system. In order to provide theoretical basis for the banker plant system, I studied the functional response of Aphidius gifuensis to Myzus persicae in the laboratory. The main findings including two parts:(1) The functional response of Aphidius gifuensis to Myzus persicae under laboratory conditions. This response has consisted with the Holling II and the response equation was Na=148.3277*(1-exp(-0.0089*N)); the handling time(b) was 0.0089; and the largest number of parasited(a) was 148.3 aphids. Therefore, I found that the best proportion of A. gifuensis and M. persicae was 1: 100 and A. gifuensis can control M. persicae effectively where larboratory conditions.(2) The banker plant system of ‘wheat- S. avenae- A. gifuensis’ controlling M. persicae in the greenhouse. Each pepper was divided into three levels(upper, middle and bottom) and the number of M. persicae population on control group was significantly higher than that on treatment group in each level. The greatest parasitism rate was 50% seven weeks after treatment. There were no differences among the three levels. Although the least number of aphids was found six weeks after treatment, the aphid population was high, caused some damage to the plants, and affected the growth of plants from third week to fifth week. Therefore, we think that the parasitoids should be released when aphid population density was low, or as soon as aphids reached economic damage level.
