| Wood, which consists mainly of plant cell walls, is an extremely important resource in our daily life. Besides its practical application in the field of architecture, it is also commonly used to make furniture, which is quite popular among the publics. Above all, wood is the raw material for papermaking that makes it an essential need in our life. However, the available quantity of wood source of per people is seriously below the world average level. To make the demand meet, large amount of lumber is imported every year. To increase wood production, genes participating in the process of cell wall and wood formation are always the research hotspots in plants. Wood-Formation Related Genes database (WFRGdb http://me.lzu.edu.cn/woodformation/) serves as a data resource center, which consists of genes (gene families) involves in wood formation. In this database, we collected all published plant genome data from other databases online and predicted all cell wall and wood formation related genes with BLAST and HMMER. To date,47 gene families from 57 genomes (28 herbaceous,22 woody and 7 non-vascular plants) were covered and more than 40,000 genes were checked and recorded. To provide an easy access to these data, we developed various search methods, which make the targeted genes or groups of genes easily be downloaded freely in FASTA format. Additionally, sequence and phylogenetic analyses are also available online. WFRGdb collected cell wall and wood formation related genes completely from available plant genomes, which provides an integrative platform for gene inquiry, downloading and analysis. Therefore, this database will be highly useful for those researchers focusing on cell wall and wood research. |
