In order to study the effect of conjugated linoleic acid(CLA) on reproduction of female mice, 60 female mice and 10 male mice were used. They were randomly divided into control group and experimental group. In control group, 1.5% peanut oil was added into the basic feed. In experimental group, 1.5% peanut oil and 1.5% CLA were added into the basic feed. After 15 days, the oestrous cycle of female mice were determined with the observation of the vaginal smear and vulva state. Six female mice of dioestrus, oestrus, 5 days after pregnancy and 9 days after pregnanc in each group were randomly selected. Blood samples were collected, and then the mice were killed. The number of embryo was counted. The concentrations of serum leptin, visfatin, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estradiol, progesterone were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Paraffin slice of ovary were made and stained with HE to calculate the number of primary follicles and secondary follicles. Six pregnant mice of each group were fed to deliver and litter size was recorded.Compared with control group, the results of experimental group were as following:1. The level of serum leptin in dioestrus, oestrus and 5 days after pregnancy was highly significant reduced(P<0.01), and the level of that in 9 days after pregnancy was significantly reduced(P<0.05).2. The level of serum visfatin in dioestrus, oestrus, 9 days after pregnancy was highly significant reduced(P<0.01), and the level of that in 5 days after pregnancy was declined significantly(P<0.05).3. The levels of follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and estradiol in serum were highly significant increased(P<0.01), and were highly significant decreased in dioestrus, 5 and 9 days after pregnancy(P<0.01).4. The concentration of serum progesterone was highly significant increased in dioestrus, 5 and 9 days after pregnancy(P<0.01). No significant difference was observed in oestrus(P>0.05).5. The number of primary follicles in ovary was decreased in dioestrus, 5 and 9 days after pregnancy, and was increased in oestrus. No significant difference was existed between the two groups(P>0.05).The number of secondary follicles in ovary was very significantly decreased in dioestrus, 5 and 9 days after pregnancy(P<0.01). The number of secondary follicles in oestrus was very significantly increased(P<0.01).6. The number of embryos in 5 and 9 days after pregnancy and the litter size were all extremely increased(P<0.01).The results showed that CLA can significantly decrease the serum level of adipokines leptin and visfatin of female mice. The level of follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone in oestrus was very significantly increased. CLA can significantly decrease the serum level of estradiol and increase the progesterone. The numbers of secondary follicles in oestrus, early embryo and the litter size were increased by CLA. In conclusion, CLA can promote the reproductive ablity of female mice.
