Degraded desert steppe of Etuoke county of Erdos City, Inner Mongolia was taken as the research areas. Plant height, coverage, density, standing crop and underground biomass (layered) of different treatments were investigated to calculate corresponding biodiversity indexes. Layered soil samples were taken to detect the microbial biomass and index of soil physical and chemical properties. The influences of plant and soil of degraded desert steppe by different enclosing-years were analysed by using the indexs mentioned above. A 16-index principal component analysis of vegetation and soil was carried out to compare composite scores of different treatments. The results showed that:(1) Enclosing increased the steppe plant communities of Margalef richness index, Shannon Wiener index and Pielou evenness index. But Margalef abundance index declined when enclosing-year was ten.(2) Enclosing increased standing crop, underground biomass and litter quantity. But standing crop and 0~10 cm layer underground biomass declined when enclosing-year was ten.(3) Soil organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and total potassium content were all increased with enclosing-year increased.(4) Compare composite score ranking of 16-indexe component analysis showed: 3-year enclosing block> 10-year enclosing block> continuous grazing block...
