| Foxtail millet is a kind of traditional and characteristic crop, which was originated in China. Foxtailmillet possesses the typical characteristics of strong resistance to drought and barren, rich nutrition,wide adaptability, and incorporates as food and fodder. It has the irreplaceable status and ecologicalbenefits in Hebei province and the Northern dryland agriculture economy. The cultivation of foxtailmillets requires artificial thinning and weeding, which became a major limitation for the development ofmillet industry. The cultivation of herbicide resistance foxtail millet varieties is the main approach tosolve the weeding in field. In recent years, herbicide resistant breeding of foxtail millet has madegreat progress, the cultivation of various types of herbicide resistance foxtail millet varieties, but thereare many problems in the application.In this study, distant hybrids obtained by greenfoxtail and cultivated varieties were applied formeaningful creation of new imazethapyr resistant millet germplasms. Through successive backcrossingwith cultivated varieties, several progeny lines with advantageous agronomic characters andimazethapyr resistance were received, which were taken for further identification and of great value toimazethapyr resistant breeding. A new imazethapyr resistant variety of millet named M1508is bred bysystem selection from above progeny lines.M1508possess excellent performance in the aspect ofagronomic characters, high-yield and adaptability.The experiment with matching herbicides showed that the best spray scheme is to spray stem and leafwith the dose of100to150ml per mu on the6days after emergence. The preliminary study showed thatthe breeding of imazethapyr resistant varieties and the Integrating chemical weeding techniques, whichlaid the foundation for the application and popularization of imazethapyr resistant millet varieties.A series of imazethapyr resistant varieties of millet are bred by application with this selectionsystem. Breeding imazethapyr resistant varieties is an effective way to solve the thinning andweeding problems in millet production, which will greatly reduce the difficulty of peasants in operatingand saving the cost of production. Therefore, the cultivation of new imazethapyr resistant milletvarieties to imazethapyr, is of great significance to the restoration and development of millet productionin Hebei province, and even in the whole country. |
